The two basic functions of an after-school program is to provide a safe environment for the child, and to give support to his learning. We realize that while it is ideal for a parent to be a child’s primary educator outside school, it is not always possible and we have the heavy responsibility of being that substitute.
Supporting a child’s learning goes beyond helping him with his homework and review. More important is to impart to a child a reason to learn, the desire to achieve, and the tools to do it with. Tools such as:
- Organizational skills
- Time management skills
- Study skills and strategies
- Manipulation and use of knowledge
